Pele from Maui – The Mauna Loa Eruption

After contemplating whether we should go to the Big Island again and try to get a close up of the Mauna Loa eruption we decided that being so close to leaving Hawaii that it would be too much for us. Here are some photos that I took with my 70-200mm lens with a 2x teleconverter and a couple with the 24-70mm for that beautiful starry sky. The glow from Pele was bright even to the naked eye but the camera was able to capture the lava flowing all the way down the NE Riftzone. Even the lava that is currently coming out of Fissure 3 glows exceptionally bright. Most of these shots were 20-30 second exposure, F2.8-F5.6 at 2000 ISO. All were shot in RAW format and these are a smaller JPG format to be able to upload to the website. Thank you and I hope you enjoy these, it felt very special to be able to see this from one of our very meaningful locations on Maui.
