The Pacific Dogwood

After a long winter in the Sierra, the cream colored flowers of the Pacific Dogwood tree are a sight for sore eyes. We are on our fourth week of false spring where a couple days a week heat up but then we find ourselves right back in the 30s at night. These are my favorite days, down to a t-shirt in the daytime and snuggled up next to fire at night.

Last year was my first experience witnessing the changing of the forests of Yosemite, from ghostly skeletons to lush jungles. My composition when trying to photograph flowers was very inexperienced last year and I look back and donโ€™t really like a lot of the images I created. I have been imagining and manifesting images of the spring flora all winter.

Here are just a couple from one idea had. I wanted to get the dogwood flowers with a long exposed river in the background. Simple right? Not exactly, with sunlight, wind and angles everything has to come together perfectly. Although not perfect I enjoyed these few shots:
