Weekend Warrior

That last few weekends I have been outside a lot in the valley and let me tell you, the spring vs winter battle has been entertaining. One day it’s in the 70s and the next we have snow. Currently, the waterfalls are so loud and the volume can be deafening.

Here is a recap of some of my adventures through photography.

Lower Yosemite Falls – this icon was like I had never seen before. The mist and the clouds created a nice contrast to highlight the trees that border the area. This was shot right around 7:00pm with very low light.
Mariposa County has some really nice trails to explore. The Hite’s Cove trail is located at the confluence of the Merced River and the South Fork Merced River. It traverses above the shore and you walk through fields of wildflowers. On this day I went before the sunrise and was able to share the trail with dozens of Sierra Newts.
The snowmelt on the warm days has entered Cook’s Meadow to the delight of the noisy red-winged blackbird. They chirp and chase each other around these beautiful reflecting pools. Taken right at sunset, Half Dome has a nice warm glow to it.
Known as one of the most colorful ducks, the Wood Duck is every photographers dream. I followed a male and female for about half an hour to get a few good shots.
Ribbon Falls is an ephemeral waterfall. It is the longest “single drop” waterfall in North America. It is hidden in a canyon just west of El Capitan.
This Great Blue Heron searches for bugs in a flooded meadow under Horse Tail falls. I climbed a down tree and hid behind the branches. Normally, these birds fly away when they discover my existence but I was able to enjoy his company for quite a while.
Fisherman stand in the Merced River the day after a snowstorm. These hills in El Portal rarely get any snow. You can see how green the grasses are.
Bridal Veil Falls from Tunnel View. Heavy snow or Sierra cement drapes over the pines and redwoods of Yosemite.
Below Mirror Lake the Tenaya Creek forms. Dancing around boulders the waters form icicles on the exposed branches. Not quite ready for swimming.

Hope you enjoy! Going to be doing some more printing and getting ready to start selling my images again. Let me know which ones are your favorites.
