Description
A change from the norm, an abstract like landscape. Near Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley National Park, is a large area of sand dunes known as Mesquite Dunes. This always changing landscape can be insanely hot in the summer and it is not a great idea to hike here. Recently, I traveled through the area at the end of October and the weather changed. I was lucky enough to go out at dusk and dawn for one day. It was cool but warm when climbing these tall mountains of blown sand. This was my first night and the sun went down fast. My plan was to hike around and look for shadows across the dunes with smooth lines and patterns. The suns fast descent made me stop and appreciate the area I made it to. This small shrub growing was a bewilderment and it caught my eye. The crest of the dune caused the light to hit the shrub but not the sand of its foundation. This was a really serene moment and I enjoyed the light. I actually stayed here until the sun disappeared behind the mountains. Hope you enjoy!
